[{"content":"Field End Flyers is a not for profit community cycle club that provides cycle coaching for primary school aged children. Our British Cycling qualified coaches run welcoming and inclusive sessions for a wide range of abilities, helping children to become confident cyclists. So if your child has never ridden a bike, or if they want to develop more advanced cycling skills in an inclusive environment then get in touch.\nField End Flyers prides itself on being a community club - run by members of the local community for local children. The club originated in 2009 when a group of parents, passionate about the sport of cycling, started an after school club for children at Field End School. Proving to be a great success, the club then opened to the wider community. The club is British Cycling affiliated and the coaches are British Cycling qualified, with a few very welcome parent helpers. However, just like that original group of parents, they are all volunteers passionate about enabling children to enjoy the sport of cycling.\nTo ensure the club’s future, we are always on the lookout for new volunteers (including participants in the Duke of Edinburgh award) to help with the running of the club. Moreover, if cycling is your sport and you are keen to inspire the next generation of cyclists, the club has opportunities to sponsor a British Cycling coaching qualification.\nBritish Cycling Affiliated # Field End Flyers is a British Cycling affiliated club. The club is accredited for two British Cycling schemes that encourage youth and disability participation (Go-Ride and Limitless)\nSession information # Saturdays, 09:15 to 11:30\nSessions run term time only, see our term dates for a more detailed list of when we are open.\nSessions are held in a private and enclosed space. Have a look through the timeline of a typical session and let your child know what to expect. A parent or guardian! A parent or guardian must be in attendance at all times. A Bike Attendees should bring their own bikes. The club has a limited pool of beginner bikes available for use, however availability is not guaranteed. The learning journey is faster, smoother and safer if children have a bike of their own that they can use consistently and become familiar with. Drink and a snack Sessions have a break half way through — a good time for refreshments. What to wear # Children should wear:\nHelmet that fits snugly Gloves (full finger are best, but short is acceptable) Attention! Children will not be allowed to participate without a helmet or gloves Close fitting clothing Baggy clothes are more likely to get caught in the bike and lead to trouble What to expect # Timeline of a typical session # 09:15 Registration opens Families arrive at 09:15 to register attendance Attention! For safety and security, the gates are locked very soon after registration. 09:30 Safety Checks Kids are taken through engaging safety drills, learning how to check their bikes and equipment 09:40 Awesome! First half begins Coaches take groups of kids and run them through a fun set of challenges, providing targetted guidance along the way. 10:30 Break time First half ends for a quick refuel and to give kids a chance to socialise 10:40 Double Awesome! Second half begins The second half usually sees different exercises introduced — mixing things up to keep the kids challenged and engaged. 11:20 Podium time! All the groups gather to celebrate the achievements of the riders 11:30 Session ends Session ends with tired legs and big smiles Weather # The club is run outdoors, weather happens. It\u0026rsquo;s usually a good opportunity for kids to learn to ride in a variety of conditions. Parents and children are encouraged to cycle to the sessions. For those coming from further away, limited parking is available on public roads outside the school premises.\nFAQs # Do you run club sessions on other days of the week No, the club is only open on Saturday mornings Do you teach learners 1-to-1 No, we teach learners in small groups of around six children per coach Will any of the coaches provide private lessons outside of the club session All of our coaches are volunteers and the club does not facilitate private lessons Do you teach adults and older children Unfortunately not, we only teach Primary school aged children How many sessions does it take to learn to ride This varies per child and there is no way to be certain. Starting ability, age, temperament and other factors play a part in how quickly a child learns. Most parents are pleasantly surprised at the rate of progress. Can I pay the fees in cash Fees are usually paid by bank transfer, but yes the club will accept cash payments. However, please bring the right money as the club does not hold cash reserve on site How long is the waiting list/where am I on the waiting list This varies, please get in touch for more information We attend only for part of a session as we have other commitments on Saturdays Life is busy and that\u0026rsquo;s okay. We ask families to arrive on time at the beginning of sessions, but families can leave early for other engagements.
